"With the onset on the Great Depression and the advent of the New Deal, the structure of government underwent drastic change. People who know anything at all about these years understand that government became both larger and more centralized."

The New Deal inspired a revolutionary concept that carries on to today. It sought for balance of involvement in the governments role in business. Today we still seek this idea, following anti- laissez fairism. Before, an act such as legislation mandating a minimum wage was considered unconstitutional because it restricted an individuals freedom. The New Deal created an avenue for the government to pass recovery legislation that would effect Americans in a real way.
"Roosevelt saved the system. It's trife to say the system would have gone out the window. But certainly a lot of institutions would have changed. We were on the verge on something. You could have had a rebellion; you could have had a Civil War." |
"To test our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have little." |
